Shrapnel

Shrapnels are a recurring enemy in the Banjo-Kazooie series.

Characteristics[edit]

Shrapnels are explosive water mine enemies. They most often appear partially emerged at the water surface, and can only be defeated from projectiles.

Banjo-Kazooie[edit]

Shrapnels first appear in Banjo-Kazooie, and are only featured in Treasure Trove Cove. If the world has been visited, a Shrapnel also appears in the Clanker's Cavern hub of Gruntilda's Lair.

If a Shrapnel notices Banjo and Kazooie, it growls and then chases them. Shrapnels explode if Banjo and Kazooie touch them, causing them to lose two Honeycombs from their life bar. In general, the duo must avoid Shrapnels, although Kazooie can safely destroy Shrapnels by firing three Blue Eggs.

Grunty's Revenge[edit]

Shrapnels appear in two worlds of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Breegull Beach and Spiller's Harbor. They now have yellow-colored spikes, and patrol a rectangular area instead of standing still when not pursuing Banjo.

Banjo-Tooie[edit]

The different colors of Shrapnel in Banjo-Tooie.

In Banjo-Tooie, there are red, green, and blue Shrapnels that appear in the deep waters of Jolly Roger's Lagoon, but only during Grunty's Submarine Challenge. The objective is for Banjo (as a Submarine) to fire torpedoes at numerous Shrapnels within the time limit and earn 60 points. Each color of Shrapnel is differently sized, and larger ones are worth more points. Red Shrapnels are worth one point, green ones are worth two, and blue ones are worth three. Just like the predecessor, Banjo must avoid touching Shrapnels, otherwise they explode on him.

Banjo-Pilot[edit]

Shrapnels make a minor appearance in Banjo-Pilot, as items dropped behind by Gruntilda during her Broomstick Cup fight. Functionality-wise, Shrapnels act the same as a Blue Ice Egg, being used for defense and making the racer crash.
