Extra Life, Banjo-Kazooie

Extra Lives, also known as Golden Banjos,[1] are a recurring object in the Banjo-Kazooie series.

Location and uses[edit]

Extra Lives are statuettes of Banjo that provide an extra life to Banjo and Kazooie, as directly stated by their name.

Banjo-Kazooie[edit]

In Banjo-Kazooie, at least two Extra Lives appear in every world, with most having three. They tend to be placed in places where they are well-hidden, or that are difficult to reach. Like most items, they respawn when a world is re-entered.

The duo begins with four extra lives, as shown by a number next to their health bar. As "extra" lives, this means that even if all are lost, one final life is available, with the extra life counter reading 0. Extra lives are not saved, and are reset to four whenever the game is rebooted. The extra life counter visually caps at 9, but any above this value will continue to be tracked as usual.

In subsequent games, the lives system was removed, so Extra Lives do not appear.

Nuts & Bolts[edit]

Banjo posing next to the Extra Life statue in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, a massive Extra Life statue appears as a Jinjo Fetch item in Act 6 of LOGBOX 720, where it belongs to a Yellow Jinjo. The Extra Life statue retains its physique, although it was changed to be twice Banjo's height, and the bottom trophy base was removed.

The Extra Life statue is on a ledge in the console's upper portion, which Banjo can only reach by using a plane vehicle. After returning the Extra Life, Banjo and Kazooie are rewarded with a Jinjo Token.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, on the Spiral Mountain stage, an Extra Life can be found on top of Banjo's House and behind the waterfall, just like in the original Banjo-Kazooie.
