Bigbutts are an enemy in Banjo-Kazooie.

Characteristics[edit]

Bigbutts are blue bull enemies found in in Mumbo's Mountain, Click Clock Wood, as well as the latter's hub area in Gruntilda's Lair. Bigbutts are very tough, being unable to be defeated, only stunned with Blue Eggs, the Beak Buster or Rat-a-tat Rap move twice. While stunned, they sit on the ground for a few seconds before getting up. They cannot damage Banjo while in that state, with him only bouncing away unharmed if he tries to touch them.

A Bigbutt also appears in the game's opening sequence, along with some smaller, tan variants. They attack Banjo and Kazooie by charging at them, but will first telegraph their attack by aggressively snorting and pawing at the ground. While charging, a Bigbutt can curve his path a slight amount. If one misses, he will quickly stop himself by sliding across the floor.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the E3 1997 demo of Banjo-Kazooie, upon start-up, the Rareware logo appears on screen and suddenly flees from a group of Bigbutts, including a smaller, pink variant.[1]
  • In Grabbed by the Ghoulies, a monstrous version of a Bigbutt's head, labeled "Bully" (the enemy's internal name), appears in the Trophy Room of Ghoulhaven Hall.
  • A model for Bigbutt was created for the cancelled Banjo-Kazooie remake, Banjo X; a brief video showing its animation was shared on Twitter. On Twitter, the Bigbutt enemy was erroneously referred to as Bully by Ed Bryan.[2]
