King Jingaling, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

King Jingaling is a large, yellow Jinjo who rules the Jinjo Village and "all things Jinjo", debuting in Banjo-Tooie. He lives in his palace at the center of Jinjo Village with his pet, Toots.

History

Banjo-Tooie

King Jingaling first appeared in Banjo-Tooie, where he is found in his palace in Jinjo Village, accessible after defeating Klungo for the first time. He tells Banjo and Kazooie that Gruntilda and her sisters scared away all the Jinjos in the village with the Hag 1, and then gives the duo a Jiggy to start their adventure. Later, Gruntilda sucks up the life force of King Jingaling with the Big-O-Blaster to create a new body for herself, barely missing the Banjo and Kazooie when they left the throne room. Due to that, the king becomes a lifeless zombie and Toots a pile of ashes with blinking eyes. Standing in the Zombified Throne Room with the zombified King Jingaling will make him give hints on how to defeat bosses and other dialogue, but he can also attack the duo if he touches them.

At the end of the game, the king is rescued by Banjo and Kazooie when they enter Cauldron Keep. Using the Big-O-Blaster, they manage to revive both King Jingaling and Bottles, who also died at the beginning of the game. King Jingaling and Klungo later go to the party at Bottles' House to celebrate Gruntilda's defeat (and also scaring Klungo with a firecracker during it).

Banjo-Pilot

In Banjo-Pilot, King Jingaling is the host of the Jinjo GP, a "highly secret event" that only the "very best of racers" can participate. He chooses six random tracks that the racer must participate in and obtain as many points as possible. After completeing all races, the king will give the pilot the Jinjo GP ribbon.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, King Jingaling can be found in Showdown Town, where he runs the Bingo Palace. To play it, Banjo and Kazooie must acquire Jinjo Tokens, which are obtainable by completing Jinjo challanges in the game's various worlds. Playing Jinjo Bingo will reward the duo with vehicle parts and Musical Notes. While Jinjo Bingo isn't the same as American Bingo, the concept is still similar, being that the duo uses Jinjo Tokens to fill the rows and columns to get prizes. When all tokens are collected, the entire board can be completed.

General information

Physical appearance

King Jingaling is a large, yellow Jinjo with green eyes. He wears a crown with a purple cap, an orange armor and purple slippers. As a zombie, King Jingaling is dull gray in color, and his eyes do not have pupils. In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, he wears a red, checkered robe, and each of its lighter red squares show a number (likely a reference to bingo). King Jingaling also wears blue slippers instead of purple.

Personality

King Jingaling seems to act "young", due to him often saying "Yo" in his dialogue. He is one of the few characters whom Kazooie does not insult, even saying his pet, Toots, is "cool". Banjo and Kazooie often get his name wrong, which gradually annoys him and is evident even after the game is completed.

Quotes

Banjo-Tooie

  • Jingaling: Yo, wassup! I'm King Jingaling, king of all things Jinjo and ruler of this village.
Banjo: Your kingdom seems a bit empty.
Jingaling: My people were scared away by those witches and their giant machine. I kinda like it quiet, but I need to get them all back for the Kickball Tournament next week.
Kazooie: Doesn't seem that important to me.
Jingaling: But it is! There's a big kickball rivalry between the Jinjos and the moles, which means there could be trouble if we don't turn up!
    Banjo: Oh dear...
Jingaling: Exactly! Anyway, here's an incentive for you to rescue my people... I believe you should go and see Master Jiggywiggy in his temple now.
    Banjo: Jiggy who?
Jingaling: Jiggywiggy. He's the leader of a secret and ancient order dedicated to the mystical powers of the Crystal Jiggy.
Kazooie: Ancient order? Crystal Jiggy? You just made that up, didn't you?
Jingaling: No, honest, it's all true! He's very important to your adventure, as only the Crystal Jiggy can open the worlds that you must enter.
Banjo: Can you show us the way, King Dingaling?
    Jingaling: It'll be my pleasure...

While zombified:

  • "...Don't mess with Targitzan. He's got a terrible temper!"
  • "...Old King Coal? Oh yeah, he's a right one..."
  • "...Oh yes, Lord Woo and I go way back. We often go fishing together, but I'm not supposed to tell anyone..."
  • "I hear Terry's wife left him recently, so his little 'uns are all he has left. He's very protective of them..."
  • "Be quick on the plains. Stomponadon shows no mercy..."
  • "...I heard that Minjos look just like us Jinjos. How bizarre..."

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

  • "A familiar face! Welcome to the court of King Jingaling, big cheese of the Jinjos. I fear I'm guilty of some self-indulgence regarding my latest hobby. Ready to join the Jinjo Bingo craze?"
  • "The aim of Jinjo Bingo is to fill a row or a column with Jinjo Tokens, won by completing Jinjo Challenges in the game worlds."
  • "When the bingo round begins, you'll see all the Tokens that you're won so far on the right-hand side of the game board."
  • "Navigate over the Tokens and press the A Button to grab one. The selected Token can be placed on any highlighted square."
  • "Move the Token around the board, choose a likely square and press the A Button to drop it in place. Pressing the B Button will return the Token to your Token pile."
  • "Once a Token is placed you can still move it to a different place on the board if you change your mind or strategy."
  • "Completing a row will earn you Musical Notes. Completing a column will earn you more vehicle parts!"
  • "When you complete a row or a column, those Tokens will be locked in place. So think carefully about the prize you want..."
  • "You're ready tho hit the Jinjo Bingo circuit. Best of luck!"
  • "To start playing, navigate over to the Token stacks and press the A Button to select one."
  • "I'm already planning my next venture: Jinjo window cleaning!"
  • "Do you know who I am? I'll have you banned from the palace!"
  • "Attempted regicide! What's gotten into you?"

Trivia

  • In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, by the tower where the final battle is, there's a stone model of his head.
  • It can be speculated that King Jingaling may have once been an ally of Gruntilda's, considering that she calls him a "traitor" right before blasting him with B.O.B.
