Minjos are a recurring antagonistic species in the Banjo-Kazooie series.
Minjos are the arch-enemies of the Jinjos and look identical to them. First appearing in Witchyworld, Minjos will imitate Jinjos from a distance, waving their arms and calling for help, but will spring into action when Banjo and/or Kazooie approach, growling and chasing after them while giving off yellow sparks. Because of their small size and high speed, they can be hard to avoid and even harder to attack, but a well-aimed Rat-a-tat Rap will dispatch them with a single hit, with rolling being completely ineffective. The player can also distinguish Minjos from Jinjos simply by firing eggs at them from a distance; if the eggs hit and damage the creature, then it is a Minjo. They can also be easily identified if they are a color that the player has already collected all the Jinjos for.

Minjos also appear in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Once a Jinjo is released from a prison, a Minjo must be found, carried and put into the empty cell, Banjo earns notes from Pikelet for doing so. Unlike in Banjo-Tooie, these Minjos do not look exactly like Jinjos. They wear tattered prison clothing and handcuffs, sporting a devious smile and red eyes. They are also all light purple. Minjos are easily discernible by the cackling noise which they make when Banjo is nearby, and are usually located nearby vacated prison cells.

*You can also tell which is a Minjo since Minjos are usually in wide open spaces, while Jinjos are found in places behind bars, hard to reach places, etc.
*Minjos in Nuts & Bolts were originally planned to be green, as seen in some promotional screenshots and concept art. The change from green to dark blue seems to have been made late in development, as their icon and the achievement "Vigilante" still show them with the incorrect color.
*Some versions of Banjo-Tooie add sharp teeth to the Minjos (as well as their talk icon), making them easier to identify.
*Minjos have deeper voices than Jinjos.
*Sometimes it's rather hard to tell the Minjos from the Jinjos in Banjo Tooie if some of the Jinjo family houses are incomplete, because it's very possible for Banjo and Kazooie to get lured towards the Minjo by thinking it's a Jinjo.

“Rarrrr! I'm a Minjo, arch enemy of the Jinjos!”
Minjo, Banjo-Tooie

Minjos are a recurring antagonistic species in the Banjo-Kazooie series.

Biography[edit]

A blue Minjo as it appears in Banjo-Tooie

Minjos are small creatures that resemble and are the arch-enemies of the Jinjos.

Banjo-Tooie[edit]

Minjos appear as enemies in Banjo-Tooie, where they are first encountered in Witchyworld. They appear in every world thereafter, including later parts of the Isle o' Hags and Cauldron Keep. In this game, Minjos imitate Jinjos, facing Banjo or Kazooie, waving their arms, and calling for help. Once they're close, however, the Minjo will reveal itself as an enemy, chasing them while growling, emitting sparks, and damaging the heroes on contact. Minjos are small, somewhat fast, and completely immune to the Forward Roll, making them somewhat tricky to deal with, but they are also fairly weak, being defeated in one hit from most other attacks.

Minjos in Banjo-Tooie look identical to Jinjos, but their disguise isn't perfect. Eggs will pass right through Jinjos, but damage Minjos, making it safe to check all potential Minjos by simply shooting them from a distance. The color they appear as is also picked randomly, and they may appear as a color of Jinjo that the player has already found all of. Lastly, Jinjos are often found in special alcoves or can only be reached by completing a certain puzzle, while Minjos are always found out in the open.

Nuts & Bolts[edit]

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Minjos can be found throughout Showdown Town. They are incapable of harming Banjo, and can be carried by Kazooie with Mumbo's Wrench after being hit with it.

Once a Jinjo is released from prison, a Minjo can be taken to their cells and replace them. When this is done, Pikelet congratulates Banjo on his work and reward him with some Musical Notes. There are six Minjos total, one for every imprisoned Jinjo.

Minjos in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts no longer look identical to Jinjos, having sharp, jagged teeth, red eyes, and grayish purple skin. They wear handcuffs and tattered prison clothes, signifying them as the true criminals. They can be difficult to spot because they're so small, but they also cackle at irregular intervals, giving away their presence.

Trivia[edit]

 • Minjos in Nuts & Bolts were originally planned to be green, as seen in some promotional screenshots and concept art. The change from green to dark blue seems to have been made late in development, as their icon and the achievement "Vigilante" still show them with the incorrect color.
