“Motzand plays his organ with ease, but can you follow him on the keys?”
Motzand, Banjo-Kazooie

Motzand is a large, ghostly hand who plays a giant pipe organ in the Haunted Church of Mad Monster Mansion. Unlike other ghosts, Motzand is friendly and, like Gruntilda, only speaks in rhymes. His name is a portmanteau of a famous composer, Mozart, and "hand."

History

Banjo-kazooie

In Banjo-Kazooie, when Banjo and Kazooie enter the church of Mad Monster Mansion and climb onto the organ's music stand, Motzand challenges them to copy the notes of two tunes that he plays on the pipe organ. Banjo and Kazooie can hit the keys by using Beak Buster on each of them. At first, Motzand plays a short tune consisting of a few notes. After the duo copy the first tune, Motzand plays a longer tune that includes more notes. Once Banjo and Kazooie have copied both tunes, Motzand congratulates them and rewards them with a Jiggy. Motzand then floats upward and fades away.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Motzand is mentioned by an Information Speaker in the Mad Monster Mansion exhibit's description, where he is described as "an organ-playing spectral hand."
