Mecha-Grunty is a large robot that serves as Gruntilda's body and the primary antagonist in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, which is a story set two months after Banjo-Kazooie and 22 months before Banjo-Tooie.
Characteristics
Mecha-Grunty is a large, mechanical body that was created by Klungo. Mecha-Grunty looks very similar to Gruntilda herself. She has a large drill atop her head acting as a hat, claws in her feet and two shining green eyes. The body of the suit is very metallic, sporting various mechanisms. On the center of her torso, a metal pad can be found. It has blue and red buttons and a gauge. A tag plate with "HAG 1" can be found in her, largely implying the Hag 1 was made with the suit's remainings.

Essentially, Mecha-Grunty is a robotic version of Gruntilda which is housing her soul while her body remains trapped in her grave after the events of Banjo-Kazooie. Grunty is predictably defeated and the Mecha-grunty robot is destroyed at the end of the game, and her soul returns to her body, while she waits for her two sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda, to remove the boulder trapping her.
As Gruntilda's body was still buried under a boulder, the suit was used to host her spirit during the events of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, making it the main antagonist of the game.

Physical Characteristics
Biography
Mecha-Grunty is an intimidating robot built in the likeness of Grunty herself, complete with claws, a large drill acting her hat, and a pair of glowing green eyes. Its body is virtually a titanic drill covered in sheets of sturdy scrap metal and various mechanisms. Originally inanimate, Mecha-Grunty came to life when Grunty entered it and, being made on such short notice by Klungo, also has a few bugs that remain such as the weak force field. The whole time Grunty is in control of Mecha-Grunty, she refrains from using her magic, instead depending on the weapon systems installed in the robot.
In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, a game taking place two months after Banjo-Kazooie, Gruntilda is found buried under a rock during the intro cutscene. There, it is shown that Klungo had been trying to push the rock and free the witch during this time. However, as that was not working, he decides to build Mecha-Grunty to host her spirit and allow Gruntilda to have her revenge against Banjo and Kazooie. Once she is in control of the robot, she proceeds to kidnap Kazooie in the duo's house and travel back in time, planning to prevent the pair from ever meeting each other. Mumbo Jumbo uses his magic to also send them back in time and stop the witch.

Mecha-Grunty is also almost entirely based around the design of the Hag 1, which is largely implied to be made from Mecha-Grunty's wreckage, seeing as how Mecha-Grunty's body is a drill and there is a tag-plate on its waist that reads "HAG 1".
After some time, Banjo reaches Breegull Beach, the world where the first battle against Mecha-Gruntilda takes place. During the fight, she walks around the arena with a protective shield surrounding her, which the bear cannot touch as he recieves damage if this is done. Once she stops and starts laughing, the barrier will stop working, allowing Banjo to hit her with a Forward Roll. This cycle continues until Mecha-Grunty has only three hits remaining. When that happens, she will start jumping into the air and fall down, trying to crush Banjo with her weight. The method used to damage her is still the same in this phase. Once three more attacks have been dealt, Mecha-Grunty flies away, leaving a Jiggy atop nearby tower and opening Kazooie's cage, finally reuniting the pair again.

Games
She is then fought again in Spiller's Harbor in a side-view battle where Banjo must use Kazooie to shoot Blue Eggs at the red spots of Mecha-Grunty (which are like that because, according to the Jinjo Oracle, she "needs more spare parts than the Freezing Furnace can make"). Each red part takes three hits to be destroyed. Once Mecha-Grunty has only three health points left, she starts to fly, making it harder for the duo to shoot the right spots. When every part is destroyed, she flees the area and leaves another Jiggy behind.
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
Just two months after being crushed under a rock in the ending of Banjo-Kazooie, Grunty's spirit was able to escape, and she is able to live once more by using a mechanical version of herself as a body called, of course, Mecha-Grunty. Klungo builds the robot seconds into the beginning of the game, allowing Grunty's ghost to swiftly free herself from the rock and wreak havoc soon after getting into her new robotic body. Mecha-Grunty proceeds to kidnap Kazooie and travel back in time to enact her latest plan: to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from ever meeting and erase her defeat at their hands from history. However, Mumbo uses his own magic to send Banjo back in time after her, and he successfully rescues Kazooie,

The duo fight with Mecha-Grunty many times through the game, each battle being slightly different than the last. Mecha-Grunty is also the final boss in the game and, after suffering a climactic defeat, Grunty returns to the hole her original body lays in, and tells Klungo to fetch her sisters, thus setting up the events of Banjo-Tooie.
She is lastly fought in Grunty's Lair. The battle starts very similarly to the first one, with Mecha-Grunty walking around the arena and being vulnerable when standing still. When she has six health points left, the witch starts to shoot energy balls at Banjo every time he hits her, then jumping into the air and falling down to try crushing the bear and bird. Once she has only three health points left, Mecha-Grunty performs both attacks at the same time, jumping and firing energy spheres at the duo while on the air. When defeated, she will fly away and leave a Shock Spring Pad behind, what leads the pair to play her quiz show.

Mecha-Grunty's remains were also used by Mingella and Blobbelda to create the Hag 1.
Once atop Winkybunion Tower, the final battle happens. She starts by simply walking around with her barrier, then standing still and open for attacks. When hit, her soul comes out of the suit, allowing Banjo to attack her and deal damage. When ten hits are remaining, she will start to jump around the arena before stopping. When eight hits are remaining, she will instead start shooting energy spheres, then leaping in the air before being vulnerable. When six hits are remaining, she will start to jump in the air and fly above the arena, shooting energy balls under her before stopping to be laugh. When four hits are remaining, she will stand still with her shield and shoot a homing energy sphere that follows Banjo while she wanders around the arena, eventually stopping and exploding the projectile, then starting to laugh again. When two hits are remaining, the mecha-suit is completely destroyed and Gruntilda's soul will attack by creating three copies of herself, with the real one needing to be hit to finally win the fight. Once defeated, the witch's spirit will fly around the tower, slowly getting smaller and eventually vanishing. Her ghost goes back to the present and re-enters her body, still stuck under the rock. She then requests Klungo to call her sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda, to help her.

“The time has come to end this game, the future cannot be the same. To your destruction you both race, to bear and bird I'll leave no trace! My victory will be most splendid, when I rule all, and your life's ended!”
Mecha-Grunty, Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge

Mecha-Grunty, also known as Mecha-Gruntilda[1], is the main antagonist of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

Characteristics[edit]

Mecha-Grunty is a large, mechanical body that was created by Klungo. Mecha-Grunty looks very similar to Gruntilda herself. She has a large drill atop her head acting as a hat, claws in her feet and two shining green eyes. The body of the suit is very metallic, sporting various mechanisms. On the center of her torso, a metal pad can be found. It has blue and red buttons and a gauge. A tag plate with "HAG 1" can be found in her, largely implying the Hag 1 was made with the suit's remainings.

As Gruntilda's body was still buried under a boulder, the suit was used to host her spirit during the events of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, making it the main antagonist of the game.

Biography[edit]
