This is a list of pre-release and unused content from Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

Freezing Fjord[edit]

Freezing Fjord concept art

Freezing Fjord is an early version of Freezing Furnace before it was combined with Fiery Furnace. The following are from the Build No. 0.37.08 prototype of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

Moves learned[edit]

  1. Fire Eggs
  2. Flight

Jiggies[edit]

  1. Bill Drill the Xs found throughout the map and a jiggy will appear on an island.
  2. Shoot at a fire egg slot to free a jiggy from a pillar of ice.
  3. Find Boggy's sled on a pillar of ice only accessible with flight.
  4. Reconnect the pipes by using pack whack on switches, if the order is correct, when firing an egg into the furnace it'll reach the end and free a jiggy.
  5. Save the Snowies from the evil mice.
  6. Hit the season-based switches in order: spring, summer, fall then winter.
  7. Inside the hidden tunnel, requiring the octopus transformation.
  8. Defeat all the snow-ball throwing Bigfoots up the mountain.
  9. Hit the five Bigfoot busts in order in the cave at the top of the mountain.
  10. Find all five Jinjos.

Jinjos[edit]

  • Found at the base of the pillar where one of the Xs is found.
  • Bill drill the cracks on the ground near the Bigfoot statue.
  • Frozen in an icicle, requiring the candle transformation.
  • On a bridge in the hidden tunnel.
  • In front of a Chompa midway up the mountain.

Extra Honeycombs[edit]

  • On top of an ice pillar.
  • On an alcove halfway up the mountain.

Jinjo Oracle[edit]

The Jinjo Oracle is located on the west side above the world entrance beside Boggy. She has the following hints:

  • Beyond the flowing wall awaits a golden honeycomb.
  • The chilling waters will cause great pain, maybe you should look to change.
  • Only a walking fire may enter the chamber of ice.
  • If you're a high flyer, you might just hit the mark.
  • Gruntilda's machines are powered by steam. It's so cold you should add a little heat.

Trivia[edit]

  • The frozen jinjo has a unique sprite that doesn't move.
  • This is the only world that doesn't have a boss.
  • Boggy was scrapped when flying was scrapped.
  • There is no fishing mini-game here like the final game.
  • Gruntweed can be found here.
  • The first area with snowball throwing Bigfoots features a gruntling frozen in the lake.
  • Design documents also mention that Wazza the Walrus was supposed to appear here.

Fiery Furnace[edit]

Fiery Furnace concept art

Fiery Furance is an early version of Freezing Furnace before it was combined with Freezing Fjord. The following are from the Build No. 0.37.08 prototype of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

Jiggies[edit]

  1. In the furnace storage on top of crates, requiring shock spring pads.
  2. Get passed the moving crusher conveyor belt and activate the switch to refine the jiggy ore.
  3. Bring Miss Bucket seven gold nuggets.
  4. In the middle of the lava lake at the refinery, shoot switches to activate moving platforms.
  5. Falling tiles puzzle over the lava jetty requiring the tank transformation.
  6. Clear the rubble faster than Masha, a rubble clearing machine.
  7. Spell out Gruntilda on the paneled floor in the Blistering Buttons room.
  8. Activate the flight pad in the entry area and fly to the high up platform.
  9. Defeat a boss (there is no boss in this build, just the mumbo totem)
  10. Find all five Jinjos.

Jinjos[edit]

  • Found in the Furnace Storage.
  • In a broken pipe in the machine room.
  • On the oil spill only accessible to the tank.
  • In the entrance area activate the moving platforms over the lava and platform to the other side.
  • Blow up the dynamite as candle Banjo.

Extra Honeycombs[edit]

  • In the middle of the Furnace storage room surrounded by Boom Boxes.
  • In the water pool at the refinery.

Jinjo Oracle[edit]

The Jinjo Oracle is located on the east side above in the furnace machine room. She has the following hints:

  • Some floor panels may be removed using downward force.
  • Gruntilda is the name of your nemesis, remember this when short on air it may provide a flight of fancy.
  • Monsters born of fire must be defeated by a wonderful move.
  • Substances that are harmful to living things may be navigated by metal machines.
  • Search all areas carefully as goodies could lurk beneath the surface.

Trivia[edit]

  • Fiery Furnace requires 53 jiggies to unlock, 16 more than the base game.
  • Despite not being in the final game, the lava area in Spiral Mountain still exists.
  • An unnamed Fire-themed Bigfoot enemy exists here.
  • A melting green statue of Mecha Grunty is featured here instead of a metal snowman.
  • Only the Lava Jetty, Furnace Storage, Blistering Buttons and Refinery made it into the game. Areas that were scrapped were the starting area, the machine room and the mine.
  • Chompas and Jinjos here are red.

MoHendraBanjo[edit]

MohendraBanjo

MoHendraBanjo was the scrapped 6th world of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. It was originally accessible after Spiller's Harbor and before Fiery Furnace. The world had a jungle and war theme as concept art often shows scenes of planes airdropping bombs, and a tank that spews poison. The level's name is placeholder as it is referred to as Jungle Ruins, and Deep Jungle in the documentation.[17]

The level featured Scorpions, Spitting Cobras, Grabba, Boom Boxes, and Spider[18] enemies though documents for the level also features Bigbutt[19]. The moves learned on this level would be Climb, and Wonderwing. After receiving the Mumbo Totem the player would be able to transform into bee Banjo.

Grunty's Stronghold[edit]

Much like how Banjo-Tooie's Cauldron Keep was once its own world, Grunty's Castle was once its own world as well. The level featured: gruntlings, live-wires, germuloids, and the unused spider enemy. The way to get to the final boss was through something called "Booster Doors" but no further information was provided.[20]

Unused Dialogue[edit]

Cliff Farm originally featured a task to find a missing Bleater and return them to their pen. All the following are found in Build No. 0.37.08 prototype of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

Image Quote
GR Banjo icon.png HI I'M ...
GR Bleater icon.png YOU CAN'T FOOL ME, YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE CREATURES, COME TO PLAY CRUEL TRICKS ON ME. I RAN AWAY FROM ONE OF YOUR LOT BEFORE AND I'LL RUN AWAY FROM YOU!
GR Bleater icon.png OUCH!! THAT HURT! IS IT BECAUSE I'M A SHEEP? I BET YOU WOULDN'T DO THAT IF I WAS A CAMEL! I'M OFF!
GR Banjo icon.png SORRY MR.BLEETER.

Spiller's Harbor featured Snorkel and his father Mr. Dolphin. Banjo as an octopus would follow them into the Murky Passage. Banjo was to protect Mr. Dolphin while he looks for his son.

Image Quote
GR Dolphin icon.png BOY AM I GLAD TO SEE YOU MISTER OCTOPUS!
GR Kazooie icon.png CAN'T YOU SEE, WE ARE A BEARANDBIRDAPUS, AREN'T DOLPHINS MEANT TO BE CLEVER?!
GR Dolphin icon.png BEARANDBIRDAPANTS? ANYWAY, MY SON SNORKEL HAS SWAM OFF ON HIS OWN DOWN THAT PIPE AND I CAN'T GET PAST THE MINES. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD HELP ME?
GR Banjo icon.png SURE THING MRS DOLPHIN, NOT A PROBLEM.
GR Dolphin icon.png GOOD, OH AND BY THE WAY IT'S MR DOLPHIN TO YOU! COME ON THEN, FOLLOW ME AND TRY TO STOP THE MINES HITTING ME TOO MUCH.
GR Dolphin icon.png (Mr.Dolphin gets hit by too many Shrapnel) THAT'S IT, I AM GETTING HIT FAR TO MUCH. LET'S TRY AGAIN LATER!
GR Dolphin icon.png (Mr. Dolphin gets to the end of the tunnel) SNORKEL!! GET YOUR FIN HERE RIGHT NOW! THANKS FOR THE HELP.... WHAT WAS THAT SNORKEL? HE SAYS THAT SOMETHING SHINY MADE HIM SWIM DOWN HERE AND IT'S JUST UP AHEAD. BYE!

A running gag throughout the game is that Banjo misgenders characters he comes across. He does this with Jinjo Oracle, Mr.Dolphin, and Miss Bucket.

Image Quote
GR Miss Bucket icon.png I THINK THERE ARE 7 BITS SCATTERED AROUND THIS ROOM. THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH!THE ONLY TROUBLE IS THE GRUNTLING HAS BEEN HIDING THEM IN TRICKY PLACES!
GR Banjo icon.png GEE, THANKS MISTER BUCKET! SEE YOU SOON.
GR Miss Bucket icon.png SEE YOU, AND IT'S MISS BUCKET, THANK YOU.

An unused character named Masha, was set to appear in Fiery Furnace's mine.

Image Quote
Masha SCRUBBER OR POLISHER?
GR Banjo icon.png EH! OH, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF MACHINE I AM DO YOU?
Masha YEAH. THEY CALL ME 'MASHA'. IT IS MY JOB TO CLEAR AWAY ANY, SHALL WE SAY, UNWANTED TRASH. KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
GR Banjo icon.png ...GULP!
Masha DON'T REMEMBER YOUR FACE. ARE YOU SURE YOU WORK HERE?
GR Banjo icon.png ERM, YEAH I'M NEW!
Masha WHATS YOUR JOB THEN?
GR Banjo icon.png ...CLEANER?
Masha REALLY!! DID THE MANAGEMENT SEND YA, OR ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO MUSCLE IN ON MY TURF? ANYWAY, I'M NOT GOING WITHOUT A FIGHT! LET'S HAVE A LITTLE CONTEST. CLEAR THE RUBBLE ALONG THIS STRETCH FASTER THAN ME AND I'LL LET YOU GO.
GR Banjo icon.png IF I LOSE? THEN W-WHAT?
Masha IF I LOSE THEN YOU GET TO SEE ONE OF GRUNTY'S GREATS CLEANING UP A LITTLE 'INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT'!!
GR Banjo icon.png T-THATS NOT GOOD, IS IT?
Masha DON'T WORRY, YOU'RE A CLEANER! GET READY, GET SET....
Masha (Beat Masha) I DONT BELIEVE IT, YOU BEAT ME! I HATE THAT!
Masha (Don't accept contest) BEST JUST LEAVE YOU THEN, CLEANER.
GR Kazooie icon.png HEY YOU'D BETTER WATCH IT!
Masha OOPS! I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO LOOK A MESS!

Leftovers from the original plot where Kazooie becomes a monster still leftover.

Image Quote
GR Banjo icon.png KAZOOIE! ARE YA ALRIGHT?! I HOPE I DIDN'T HIT YOU TOO HARD.
GR Kazooie icon.png IT'S OKAY BANJO, THOSE PACK WHACKS ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THE PUNISHMENT GRUNTY'S GOING TO GET NEXT TIME I SEE HER!

Note to Paul Machacek from whoever is writing the dialogue:

Image Quote
GR Banjo icon.png PLEASE REMOVE THIS TEXT PAUL.

Dialogue with Boggy that was scrapped when flying was removed from the game.

Image Quote
GR Banjo icon.png HI THERE LITTLE BEAR.
BK Boggy icon.png HELLO, I DON'T EXPECT THAT YOU COULD HELP ME, COULD YOU?
GR Kazooie icon.png HERE WE GO AGAIN!
GR Banjo icon.png IGNORE HER LITTLE BEAR, TELL US YOUR NAME.
BK Boggy icon.png MY NAMES BOGGY AND ...
GR Banjo icon.png YOU WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO OWN A SLED BY ANY CHANCE?
BK Boggy icon.png WAHHH!! ONE OF THOSE GRUMPY BIGFEET, THREW IT ONTO A HIGH LEDGE, AND I CAN'T GET IT BACK!
GR Banjo icon.png DON'T CRY BOGGY, WE'LL GET YOUR SLED BACK!
BK Boggy icon.png HAVE YOU GOT MY SLED IN YOUR BACK PACK?
GR Banjo icon.png (Haven't collected the sled yet) SORRY, WE HAVEN'T GOT IT BACK FROM THAT HIGH LEDGE YET.
BK Boggy icon.png YOU BETTER HURRY AND GET ME MY SLED BACK, IT'S NEARLY TEA TIME!
GR Banjo icon.png (Collected the sled) HIYA BOGGY, AND HERE'S YOUR SLED.
BK Boggy icon.png YIPPEE, IF I EVER SEE YOU AGAIN I WANNA HAVE A RACE!
GR Kazooie icon.png BETTER GET AN EXTRA SLED THEN!
BK Boggy icon.png GOOD IDEA! SEE YOU LATER.

Shortened Dialogue[edit]

Originally Mumbo when introducing themselves to Mumbo the first time, he over explains his purpose with some grotesque details. This is dialogue found in Build No. 0.37.08 prototype of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.
