JollyDodger Bio

Before I begin, let me say I edit pretty much any Nintendo or classic gaming wiki there is, under different names. Hello there! I be JollyDodger! I'm a 24 student at Johns' Hopkins Medical School, but I take time from my studies to play my passion. I enjoy anything involving video games really. The one exception to that is FPS's, I personally think they're all too similar. Also, I'm very big on the mind-set that music makes or breaks the game. Aside from that, my favorite company will always be Nintendo and the characters that were born from them. Rare's earlier work is very good too, and there recent projects (Viva Pinata, BK: N&B) show them returning to there roots which I'm ecstatic to see. While I do own all 3 of the new-gen systems, I believe that Nintendo's Wii isn't all that it's hyped up to be, and we aren't experiencing the gaming renaissance that we're being told we are, though provided, we do have a few diamonds in the rough. Honestly, with the amount of crappy FPS everyone is spewing out on the market, I'd say it's a darker time for gaming. The classics are still the best, and always will be, because you couldn't hide behind graphics to make a good game *coughGearsofWarcough*, and Mario, Link, Banjo and Kazooie and all our favorite characters from the past are perfect examples of that. I own BK, BT, and Nuts&Bolts. And yes, I enjoy Nuts and Bolts very much, it isn't on the same level as the previous titles, but it deserves recognition.

Gaming Status

Banjo-Kazooie: Extremely well-done. I always liked Tooie better, but this turned me into the fan-boy you see here. The level size, graphics, music and sheer amount of things you could do/get in the game we're unheard of at the time. Aside from the that, I have to say, I've playesd over 200 games since the NES came out and very few boss fight even measure up to the climactic fight on the top of Grunty's tower (Ganondorf's battle in Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the very few that gets close.) The final fight's music is amazing. I remember being pretty frustrated with Grunty's shield when I first battled her but I laughed really hard when the Jinjos appeared to help me and said something like "Quickly brothers! Our new friends need our aid!" All in all, one of Rare's best games.

Banjo-Tooie: My favorite in the series. simply because I felt it at least doubled the content in Kazooie. The levels were even better in this one, you couldn't get all 10 jiggies in one play-through of a level, making you backtrack and letting only the determined get all 100%. Not a fan of the final boss battle however. A sad shake of the head towards Breegull Blaster, turning BK into an FPS is just... wrong...

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts: I looked at the game with a frown when I first saw it, but I sighed, figured I wasn't an retro-fan if I didn't support my old favorites and bought the game. Boy was I surprised! I didn't expect anything on the levels of the first two of course, but it was a helluvalot better than I ever thought. If anything it made me unbelievebly happy to see Rare never forgot the Bear and Bird, and I got giddy when they said something about a new platformer at the end. Rare, please, make Banjo-Threeie a platformer.

Explanations

To explain the more interesting choices I made in the above lists, I made this section. L.O.G. just earned the #2 spot on my list for him saying, and I quote: "You know I made the first-person shooter, I really regret that now...". Jolly Roger may seem like a strange choice, but when I first got Banjo-Tooie, I was young enough to look over the sexual innuendo he made in the tavern, playing it a few years later, I had a "WTF?" moment talking to him every couple seconds, seeing the way he acts in N&B makes me always laugh (Hey there Teddy Bear ;), Come back! You haven't satisfied my needs!), and the "slightly" homosexual pirate earns a spot on the list. Trophy Thomas is an arrogant punk, Mingy and Blobby made Grunty stop rhyming (one of the most memorable parts of Banjo-Kazooie, Mr. Fit never stood out to me in Tooie, so it always made me wonder why they put him in N&B. Oh, and Banjoland is my favorite world of all time, it was like riding through my childhood, closely followed by Furnace Fun.
