Rare is known for the amount of crude humor hidden in their games, some of which, if more blatant, would have affected the age ratings, as deliberately demonstrated in their game Conker's Bad Fur Day. The Banjo-Kazooie games are no exception to this, and are in fact one of the best-known examples. Many of them involve uses of primarily-British slang words that American censors would not recognize, or uses of randomly-chosen pieces of dialog that might not show up when censors were checking the game. There are even cases where people mistake innocuous things in their games for dirty things, notably the Flower Urns' throaty "Thank you" being commonly misheard as "Fuck you," including during development.

Banjo-Kazooie

• Mumbo Jumbo's "Oomenacka!" chant is actually a sped-up clip of the phrase "Ooh, me knacker!" "Knacker" is a British slang for testicle.
• Some of the randomly-chosen facts about Gruntilda contain adult jokes, such as her party trick being "a scary striptease" and her dog's name being "Bigknacka."
• Upon meeting Trunker, Kazooie remarks "Nice nuts!" to which Banjo is annoyed.
• Tanktup's name is a play on the phrase "tanked up," which means to be drunk.
• The Bikini Girl's melons are deliberate intended to invoke giant breasts.

Banjo-Tooie

• Chief Bloatazin nearly swears upon hearing the Unga Bunga tribe is responsible for the missing "Sacred Priceless Relic Thingy," only for Banjo to interject, "Careful, this is a family game."
• Several of Honey B.'s mannerisms are rather suggestive, such as her offer to give Banjo "an extension" and calling him "Big Bear," and to gian the health extension, Banjo throws the Extra Honeycomb Pieces into her groin area.
• A running gag with Canary Mary is that the treasures she has are in undesirable areas on her person, which eventually Kazooie interrupts her mentioning of in order to not hear.
• Mr. Patch's nozzle is located between the legs, looking somewhat like a penis. This is not the case in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, where due to a complaint from a censor who noticed, it was moved to his lower torso to resemble an outie navel.
• Lord Woo Fak Fak's name is deliberately intended to sound like "Fuck Fuck"; he was named for software engineer Paul J. Machacek, who would frequently curse when something went wrong during development of games at Rare, and would excitedly shout "Woo!" when the bug was finally worked out.
• Jolly Roger has a number of jokes hinting that he may be homosexual (a subject considered taboo in childrens' media at the time for the most part), one of which involves one of his favorite songs being the "Salty Seamen Shanty." A tanker in the background is for Ginger Beer (which Kazooie asks for upon meeting him), Cockney rhyming slang for "queer." It is also hinted that his "partner," Merry Maggie Malpass, may be a cross-dresser.
  • Also related to Jolly, an incorrect answer regarding the menu to his bar refers to a dish called "Cabin Boy's Sausage."
• The path in front Mumbo's Skull in Terrydactyland as seen from above looks extremely phallic, and when the platforms are raised, it looks as though it is ejaculating.

Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge

• The name of Momma Clucker sounds similar to the phrase "Mother Fucker."

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

• Mumbo's coconut farm in Nutty Acres is given the somewhat-suggestive name of "Mumbo's Nuts."
