Salty Joe is a red fox who serves fries at a stand named "Salty Joe's Fries" in Witchyworld in Banjo-Tooie. Similarly, a rhino named Big Al sells burgers at another stand. Despite similar roles, Salty Joe is never seen talking with Big Al.

Salty Joe is a red fox and an employee of Witchyworld, operating the theme park's fries stand.

In order to access his stand, Banjo and Kazooie must hit the switch behind it. Salty Joe is rude and dislikes customers because they "always want things". Due to the poor conditions of Witchyworld, he is not used to customers, which makes him unsure what to say when he gives someone some fries, and also implies that he only bids them well because such comes out of his paycheck. He always has to fry up more fries due to having only one customer. He also gets angry with Kazooie when the latter hints at an impending rush in response. If Banjo visits Salty Joe without Kazooie, he asks if he can be Banjo's sidekick; it is implied that Salty Joe asked this to escape his job.
History
Banjo-Tooie
In Banjo-Tooie, Salty Joe can be found in his stand. While it is closed at first, the booth can be opened by pressing a switch behind it. Salty Joe then complains that someone found the switch and says he hates costumers, as they're "always wanting things". When first interacted with, he will ask Banjo and Kazooie to "hurry up" because he is "a busy guy", then offer the duo his "limp, salty fries". If they accept, Salty Joe will give them and says he'd "better start frying up some more", as he is "all out".

Although Salty Joe is not as incompetent and unhygienic as Big Al, the origin of his food is as disgusting. Despite this, Salty Joe's Fries has a four star rating, over Big Al's Burgers' one star. A nearby Signpost describes his fries as "a limp, greasy, tasteless alternative to a decent meal". In the character parade, Salty Joe sneezes on the fries, much like Big Al coughs on his burgers.
If Banjo goes to get fries from him alone, Salty Joe will ask the bear if he needs a sidekick, and proceed to list the moves he knows, the "Salt Shaker Slap", the "Greasy Hand Grab" and spitting fries really far — with none of them interesting Banjo.

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, a restaurant sign in Showdown Town reads "Salty Joe's Fish & Chips".
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, various signs throughout Showdown Town have the logo of "Salty Joe's Fish & Chips" in them.

Trivia
*Aside from the fact that Salty Joe sells fries, the term "salty" can refer to someone being bitter and antagonistic, which is fitting for Salty Joe's personality.
