Honeycombs are the life of Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. One honeycomb is taken away for being harmed on most occasions. Honeycombs can be mostly obtained from defeating a enemy or defeating a Beehive for multiple honeycombs. Banjo can increase his capacity by collecting Extra Honeycombs.
Honeycombs are used in the Banjo-Kazooie series as the player's life bar. Usually, being hurt by an enemy or damaging terrain causes Banjo and/or Kazooie to lose a Honeycomb (more can be lost at once from certain enemies and fall damage). Honeycombs can be replenished by collecting some from fallen enemies (usually one at a time) and Beehives.

Honeycombs appeared in Nuts & Bolts at the end in Lord Of Games' challenge in Spiral Mountain, but not as recovery items, but as fetch items.

Honeycomb capacity can change. Extra Honeycomb Pieces can be collected to increase Honeycomb capacity, and the final puzzle in Banjo-Kazooie causes Banjo and Kazooie's energy bar to double in size. Different transformations in Banjo-Tooie also have differently-sized energy bars, as do Banjo and Kazooie when split up.

Honeycombs appear in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts at the end in Lord Of Games' challenge in Spiral Mountain as fetch items.
