Talk:Edson
Edson vs. Edison[edit]
Hi all, please note that the protagonist's name is 'Edson' (not "Edison"). This has been discussed many times with the developers, and "Edison" has NEVER been used. Every page online that uses "Edison" uses invalid citations or else they cite pages that used invalid citations. Please do NOT use the name "Edison" anywhere in this article since it is 100% factually incorrect! Here are just a handful of the many valid citations available (from official sources or from the actual developers):

THE TITLE OF THIS PAGE AND THE TITLE OF THE IMAGE BOX NEED TO BE CHANGED FROM "EDISON" TO 'EDSON'. I do not know how to do this, so help would be much appreciated.--RdCrestdBreegull (talk)
- The captions that were added in the video are official though. They are from Rare Replay. In the game, you can put subtitles on or off, and when you do put the subtitles on, you see that they say "Edison". I'm sure that the correct name is indeed "Edson", but since "Edison" was already used officially before, we have to mention both. I own Rare Replay and I know it is a fact that they do call him "Edison" in the game. --Metalex123 (talk) 03:51, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
- The captions in the video you linked were added by the non-Rare pirate uploader, as far as I'm aware. I went into Rare Replay and could not find a caption option -- would you please advise me how to turn on the captions in Rare Replay so that I may check myself? And either way, the character has never been referred to as 'Edison' by any Rare employee, former or current. If those captions do appear in the actual Rare Replay version of the video (please advise how to activate this, because I tried and could not figure it out), they are clearly typos as the speakers are very clearly saying 'Edson'. And if those captions prove official, then I will talk directly to Rare and the employees to get it confirmed that it was a typo, and that will trump your ridiculous citation. We will not use typos as a validation to perpetuate misinformation, and that is not the intent of the wiki. This "Edison" thing needs to end, and I will see to it that it does. Please advise on how to activate the captions in Rare Replay, and this will move forward from there. --RdCrestdBreegull (talk)
- In the main menu of the game, press the "Start" button (the button with three lines on it that replaces the usual "Start" button on controllers), which leads you to a "Global Options" menu. First thing you should see in that menu is the option to activate or deactivate subtitles. I just checked on my own copy of the game, and yes, the subtitles are the exact same as the one from the YouTube video, with the mention of "Edison", so the uploader didn't add fan subtitles. Also even if it is a typo, it was used in something official Rare-related, so we should still mention it. If it's confirmed to be a typo, then we could change it to "Edson, also known as Edison due to a typo in Rare Replay, is...", or something like that. I also believe that "Edson" is the real name for the character, don't worry, but since the name "Edison" is mentionned in something official, even if it's a typo, it should still be mentionned on the article. --Metalex123 (talk) 08:50, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
- I checked and although "Edison" does appear in the subtitles at around the 0:40 mark, it is clearly a typo as the speaker (Ed Bryan) is clearly saying "Edson". I have done my research, have collaborated with multiple staff from the website Rare Gamer, and there is no doubt that this is simply a typo. I have also another references from Rare specifically saying that the character is not called "Edison": https://twitter.com/rareltd/status/578965642822447105?s=21 . There is no need to even mention the word "Edison" on this page — Nintendo has mistakenly referred to Dixie Kong as "Daisy Kong" in the past; does that mean that her wiki page should say "Dixie Kong, sometimes referred to as Daisy Kong"? This needs to stop. RdCrestdBreegull (talk) 03:02, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- We shouldn't remove info though. I added a mention of this in the trivia, to make it extra clear to others that his name is not Edison. Is everyone okay now? Results May Vary (talk) 17:15, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- I don't see anything wrong with that. RdCrestdBreegull (talk) 21:13, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
