Since their debut in ''[[Banjo-Kazooie]]'', transformations have also appeared in ''[[Banjo-Tooie]]'' and ''[[Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge]]''. Transformations are usually done by [[Mumbo Jumbo]], although in ''Banjo-Tooie'', they are handled by [[Humba Wumba]] instead. Transformations serve various and specific purposes, such as the ability to access certain areas or to talk to certain characters.

In ''Banjo-Kazooie'', all transformations are invulnerable to hazardous terrain, can all fit in small spaces, and can all climb slopes too steep for even the [[Talon Trot]]. Most transformations cannot attack, and most of them can walk underwater with no need for air. Each transformation costs five [[Mumbo Token]]s to unlock, and are only available in a specific level. However, it is possible for Banjo and Kazooie to exit into [[Gruntilda's Lair]] while they are still transformed, as some rooms have Jiggies that can only be obtained while Banjo and Kazooie are transformed.

Very rarely, Mumbo Jumbo mistakenly turns Banjo into a washing machine, before going on to turn him into the correct transformation. Also he mentions he would turn Banjo into a [[T-Rex]] but changes his mind, saying that the transformation is meant for the [[Banjo-Tooie|next game]].

In ''[[Banjo-Tooie]]'', transformations cannot exit their host world. However, there are a few exceptions, including Stony, who can enter Hailfire Peaks, and Dragon Kazooie, who can enter any world. Each of them have the ability to defend themselves, except the baby T-Rex, and many have the ability to attack. The transformations have varying amounts of health, which is usually also affected by how many [[Extra Honeycomb Piece]]s Banjo and Kazooie have.

Each world has a certain spell that can be performed by using [[Mumbo Pad]]s. Some spells can be used only once, while others can be used as many times as necessary.
