Icy water is a hazard for Banjo and Kazooie in several games, due to its low temperature.

Location and uses
Banjo-Kazooie
Due to its low temperature, Banjo and Kazooie either receive damage upon touching it or run out of oxygen twice as fast as normal while swimming in it.
In Banjo-Kazooie, icy water appears in two forms. In Freezeezy Peak, the first type of water cannot be touched at all, not even the Wonderwing, and if Banjo and Kazooie make contact with it, they will take damage and bounce away. However, Banjo can avoid taking damage from the icy water by being transformed into Walrus Banjo. Kazooie can also travel safely across icy water by using the Stilt Stride. This water is found only in some pools.

Banjo-Kazooie
In the Winter section of Click Clock Wood, the second type makes up the freezing pond and acts much like regular water; however, unlike regular water, this water is so cold that the player will begin to lose oxygen twice as fast.
In Banjo-Kazooie, icy water can be found in Freezeezy Peak and in the winter season of Click Clock Wood. While the former cannot be touched normally, only as Walrus Banjo or wearing Wading Boots as it deals damage to Banjo and Kazooie even if they use the Wonderwing, the duo can swim in the latter but run out of oxygen twice as fast.

Banjo-Tooie
Banjo-Tooie
In Banjo Tooie, icy water is found in the Icy Side of Hailfire Peaks. While the water found in the lakes and in Chilly Willy's arena work like they did in the Freezeezy Peak world of Banjo-Kazooie, the pool in the Icy Side's Train Station works like it did in the Click Clock Wood world of the same game, during winter.
In Banjo Tooie, icy water appears only in the level Hailfire Peaks. The lake in the Icy Side and the pool in Chilly Willy's area behaves the same as the one in Freezeezy Peak, while the Ice Train Station behaves the same as the one in Click Clock Wood's Winter section.
