Portrait Chompas are an enemy in Banjo-Kazooie.

Portrait Chompas are skeletal fish-like creatures found in three instances in Mad Monster Mansion. Thet hide in holes in the wall covered by hanging pictures and behave similarly to the Grille Chompa and Big Clucker, waiting until Banjo gets close and then bursting through their paintings, lunging at the bear several times before retreating back (and the painting closing itself up). Chompa paintings are impossible to distinguish from the mansion's many other hanging pictures at a distance, but these enemies are given away by a characteristic growl just before Banjo comes within biting distance. Unlike Limbos, these skeletons will not regenerate and can be taken down easily with a single hit from the Rat-a-tat Rap.
Characteristics
Portrait Chompas are a skeletal variant of Grille Chompas encountered only in Mad Monster Mansion, in the Haunted Church and the main mansion. As their name implies, Portrait Chompas hide within the walls behind portraits, such as one which depicts trees under a full moon, one of a castle, one of Gruntilda, and one of Captain Blackeye.

Trivia
Portrait Chompas act similarly to Grille Chompas and Big Cluckers. When Banjo and Kazooie approach a Portrait Chompa, it bursts out of its portrait, lunging itself at the duo three times, and retreats back into the wall, with the portrait closing itself up. Like their counterparts, Portrait Chompas can be defeated by either a Rat-a-tat Rap or a Wonderwing attack. Unlike Limbos, they do not regenerate after being defeated.
*Each Portrait Chompa hides behind a different painting: one depicting trees under a full moon, one of a castle, one of Grunty herself.

*Oddly, They appear to be Undead Chompas, yet they lack arms, or they juust aren't shown
From a distance, Portrait Chompas' portraits cannot be distinguished from normal ones. A Portrait Chompa can only be identified from the distinct growling sound that it makes whenever Banjo goes close to its portrait.
