It is one of the earliest moves learned and also one of the most useful. In Banjo-Kazooie, this move must be learned in order to proceed to the next area in Gruntilda's Lair after Mumbo's Mountain. In Banjo-Tooie, Kazooie retains the Talon Trot's slope-climbing ability when separated from Banjo.

The Talon Trot is an ability learned from Bottles on Mumbo's Mountain in Banjo-Kazooie and which carries over to Banjo-Tooie. It is one of the earliest moves that Banjo and Kazooie learn, and is required for them to continue past the first floor of Gruntilda's Lair.

For the duo perform a Talon Trot, the player must hold Z Button and press Camera left Button, causing Kazooie to stick her legs out of the backpack and carry Banjo around. The Talon Trot's main purpose is to climb steep slopes, but it also allows the duo to move around faster. As a termite, Banjo can go up more steep slopes than the Talon Trot allows for, specifically the slopes in Ticker's Tower.

In Banjo-Tooie, the move is retained from the first game. Kazooie can use also use this ability while separated from Banjo.

In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Bozzeye teaches Talon Trot at Breegull Beach for 140 Musical Notes. The Talon Trot works the same as in the Nintendo 64 games, but for Banjo and Kazooie to use it, the player must hold down L Button and press R Button. Once the move is active, the player can release both buttons.

At the start of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Kazooie mentions that she would use Talon Trot if she remembered how to. Later, Lord of Games gives Banjo and Kazooie a Trolley instead of teaching them Talon Trot again, deeming it a worthless ability.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Talon Trot returns as the duo's dash action.
