Klungo was Gruntilda's first faithful minion in the Banjo-Kazooie series before Piddles took over. He is a green, Igor-like Ogre or a Troll, who creates machines and other items to aid Gruntilda. Klungo often uses poor grammar when he speaks, and extends the letter S in words; for example, "Mistress" would become "Missstresss", just like Ssslumber's use of grammar when he speaks.

Klungo is a green, goblin-like character and one of the main characters in the Banjo-Kazooie series. He formerly served as the loyal assistant of Gruntilda and was a scientist who created various inventions to help with her evil schemes. Klungo first appears in Banjo-Kazooie and has since appeared in every game of series. Klungo is usually seen wearing a white lab coat. He speaks with incorrect grammar and, like Ssslumber, hisses every time he pronounces the letter "s".

Banjo-Kazooie
Klungo first appears in Banjo-Kazooie where he was only seen in a few cutscenes, helping Grunty all the way. He created the machine that would transfer Tooty's beauty to Gruntilda, and is required to throw the switch to activate it. He spent two years trying to push a rock off of Gruntilda, during which time he eventually called Gruntilda's wicked sisters to dig her out.
In Banjo-Kazooie, Klungo has a minor role and only appears in a few cutscenes, helping Gruntilda with her Beauty Steal Machine. In a cutscene right before Banjo and Kazooie start their adventure, he tells Gruntilda that the machine has to power up but assures her that it will soon be ready. Klungo also appears in the Game Over sequence, in which he has an Igor-like role, as Gruntilda instructs him to pull the switch that transfers Tooty's beauty to her.

Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
In the ending, after the final battle, Klungo is seen trying to push off a large boulder that fell on Gruntilda.
In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, a game taking place in between Kazooie and Tooie, Klungo creates the Mecha-Grunty suit, which allows Grunty to go back in time. Klungo also appears as a boss four times. Each battle has Klungo upgraded. The first battle he has a potion that gives him a force field. In the second battle, he still has the force field, but he also has a potion which can make him invisible. As in Banjo-Tooie, the invisibility potion fails. In the third battle, he still has the force field, he can turn invisible, and now he sends red, one-eyed Germuloids to attack Banjo and Kazooie. In the fourth battle, he still has the force field and he can turn invisible, and now he sends red or green Spookos to attack the duo.

In Banjo-Tooie, his role was somewhat expanded. He is a boss whom Banjo and Kazooie must fight three times throughout the whole game. He has three different potions, one per battle, each potion having 3 phases to it. The battle progresses phase when Klungo is hit. These are random so they are in no particular order. The red potion grants the ability for Klungo to grow. As well as this, Klungo tries to jump on Banjo and Kazooie. The green potion grants Klungo invisibility, however; the potion isn't perfect and will occasionally show the location of Klungo by stopping the invisibility momentarily. The blue potion clones Klungo. The real Klungo is the one who moves last and his nose is a lighter green than the clones. The first phase of this potion clones Klungo once (2 Klungos), the second clones twice (3 Klungos), and the final clones three times (4 Klungos).
In Banjo-Tooie, Klungo's role was expanded from the first game. He is first shown in the introduction, still trying to lift a boulder off Gruntilda after two years. Just as Klungo decides to give up, Grunty's sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda, arrive and use their magic to lift the boulder. Klungo celebrates heartily and pats Grunty on the back, causing her loose eye to briefly pop out, which scares Klungo. After destroying Banjo's House, Grunty and her sisters leave in the Hag 1. Klungo tries to follow them, but Gruntilda instructs him to stay behind. Klungo awaits Banjo and Kazooie in a cave connecting Spiral Mountain to Jinjo Village. Klungo is fought on three separate occasions:

When he loses, he feels so ashamed, he actually insists on getting beat up by Grunty. In every battle he is encountered, he is more beaten up and bruised.
*In the cave that connects Spiral Mountain to Jinjo Village. The game title introduces him as a Minion with a Mission. After the battle, Banjo and Kazooie cannot enter the cave again, and are directly taken to either Spiral Mountain or Jinjo Village (depending on which entrance they use).
*The second battle takes place near the entrance to Terrydactyland. He is introduced as a Revenge-Seeking Minion.
*The third and final battle is just beyond the entrance to Gruntilda's Lair in Cauldron Keep. He is introduced as a Career-Questioning Minion.

In the end, he realizes that the more he gets beaten up, the more ugly he becomes, and he states that Mrs. Klungo won't find him handsome anymore. He abandons Grunty and joins Banjo's group of friends. As he leaves Cauldron Keep, he mutters about going off to make "ssstupid games". He then goes to a party at Bottles' House and eats all the food before Banjo and Kazooie arrive from battling Grunty and falls asleep.
In every fight, Klungo tries to attack Banjo and Kazooie by throwing potions at them. Each time he loses a fight, Klungo feels ashamed and willingly returns to Grunty for beatings. Each time he is encountered, Klungo is shown to be increasingly injured and bruised. In each battle, Klungo uses a different potion to attack Banjo and Kazooie. In every battle, the duo can defeat Klungo by hitting him three times. There is no particular order for which potion is used during which battle:

In his 3 battles, the subtitled name changes to fit his mood and the change in dynamics between Klungo and Gruntilda. The first battle in the first Digger Tunnel he's titled as "Minion with a mission", which references Gruntilda giving Klungo orders in the introductory cutscene to stay in Spiral Mountain with the implied mission to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from progressing past Spiral Mountain. The second battle in the second Digger Tunnel he's titled as "Revenge-Seeking Minion", which references the failed attempt in the first Digger Tunnel, resulting in Gruntilda requesting that Klungo tries again. Klungo is titled "Career-Questioning Minion" in the final encounter with Klungo for Banjo-Tooie, which takes place in the Gatehouse. The title for Klungo references the start of Klungo's realisation that the beatings that Gruntilda is giving is not helping Klungo, and Klungo is (as a result), contemplating whether he should continue his service towards Gruntilda.
*The red potion gives Klungo the ability to grow. As well as this, Klungo tries to jump on Banjo and Kazooie.
*The green potion grants Klungo invisibility, although the potion is imperfect as it occasionally gives away Klungo's location.
*The blue potion clones Klungo. At the start of the battle, Klungo creates one clone of himself. After each hit, Klungo creates one more clone of himself, so after one hit, Klungo creates two clones of himself, and after two hits, he creates three clones of himself. In every phase, the real Klungo moves last and his nose is a lighter green than his clones.

Banjo-Pilot
After losing to Banjo and Kazooie a third time, Klungo complains that he is becoming increasingly less handsome after every battle, which makes Mrs. Klungo unhappy. Klungo abandons Gruntilda and decides to join Banjo's side as he walks out of Cauldron Keep, mumbling about how his future prospects with Grunty are not good. Klungo considers getting a job of making "ssstupid videogamesss".
Klungo is a playable racer in Banjo-Pilot and the second-to-last boss at the end of the Skull Cup.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Klungo stops by King Jingaling's Throne Room, and he and King Jingaling visit Bottles' House for a party. Klungo tells Mrs. Bottles that Banjo and Kazooie freed him from Gruntilda. The duo arrive late to Bottles' House for a party, but find Klungo asleep in a corner. Bottles tells them that Klungo ate all of the food in their house.
Klungo returns in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, where he now owns an arcade at the pier. Klungo has left Grunty to pursue a career in video games. He actually created a game, Hero Klungo Sssavesss Teh World. His game involves jumping over holes, enemies, and hills and fighting Gruntilda in the end. He appears in Nutty Acres, LOGBOX 720, Banjoland, and the Terrarium of Terror. His injuries from Grunty are still present: he bears two black eyes and large amounts of stitches in his face.

Showdown Town
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
Klungo owns his own arcade here. He wears his normal white lab coat. He can be found at the end of the dock in the seaside district. He is very proud of his game even though it is rather crude.

In the midquel Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, after two months of trying to free Grunty from under the boulder, Klungo designs Mecha-Grunty for Grunty to transfer her spirit into. Together, Mecha-Grunty and Klungo kidnap Kazooie and time travel to the past, hoping to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from ever meeting.

Nutty Acres
There are four boss battles in which Banjo and Kazooie fight Klungo, each set in a different location. Like Banjo-Tooie, Klungo relies on using potions in each battle, although there are only two variations. One of the potions generates a force field around Klungo, and is used by him in every battle. Starting with the second boss fight, Klungo also uses a potion which makes him invisible; this potion returns from Banjo-Tooie, retaining its side-effect of temporarily making Klungo visible while he uses it. In the third battle, besides retaining both of his potion abilities, Klungo also sends out red Germuloids. In the fourth battle, he sends out both red and green Spookos instead of Germuloids.
Klungo is a farmhand here and wears a red plaid coat. He hosts challenges in Acts 1, 4, 5 and 6. His first challenge is simple, just drive to Mumbo. Later he asks you to harvest coconuts from the grove, then he wants you to cook an egg for him. In the last act, he challenges you to a race against the farm staff in a dried river bed. Klungo likes his job here but is not very good at it and constantly needs Banjo's help to avoid getting fired.

LOGBOX 720
In the ending, after Grunty's soul returns to her normal body, she demands Klungo to send a note to her sisters to help lift the boulder off her, leading to the events of Banjo-Tooie.
Klungo appears here as a worker in the console. He again is not a great worker and needs help to avoid getting fired. He wears another white lab coat in this world. He hosts challenges in Acts 1 and 4. He first needs Banjo to reconnect the console internet connection and later needs him to wet the Glubber sponge. He also appears in other races and challenges.

Banjoland
Banjo-Pilot
Klungo reappears as an average-Grunt again in this world. Klungo wears a green coat in this world. He hosts challenges in Acts 1, 3, 5 and 6. He hosts races in this world: one around the whole museum, another in the pool, a third in a Gobi-shaped vehicle and lastly, one around the frozen pool in a Honeycomb car.
In Banjo-Pilot, Klungo is a playable character, being unlocked by completing Skull Cup and giving 150 Cheato Pages to Cheato. He has low handling and acceleration but high top speed. Klungo is the boss of Skull Cup, being fought at the end in the match "Klungo Karnage". During the battle, when Klungo is flying in front, he throws behind potions that work like Single Blue Ice Eggs.

Terrarium of Terror
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Klungo acts as an entrepreneur selling Floatberries in this world. He wears a shiny, purple coat. He appears in Acts 1, 2, 3 and 4. He first needs Banjo and Kazooie to save the last Floatberry. Later, the duo must water them and then must put them into the juicer. In the last act he appears in, he makes friends with Uranus Mud Monster and wants Banjo and Kazooie to push them out of the water. Klungo seems to be a good businessman in this world as other characters mention his Floatberry Juice and ads for it appear outside of the terrarium.
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Klungo fulfills his dream of being a game designer. He runs his own arcade at the pier of Showdown Town. He made one video game, titled "Hero Klungo Sssavesss Teh World", which Banjo and Kazooie can play to win prizes. In this game, the player controls an 8-bit Klungo, and are limited to only being able to control his jumping. Klungo must avoid every obstacle in his path, including holes, enemies, and hills. The end involves a boss fight against Gruntilda. Piddles takes over Klungo's role of being Grunty's assistant.

In Nutty Acres, Klungo is a farmhand here and wears a red plaid coat. He hosts challenges in Acts 1, 4, 5 and 6. His first challenge is simple, just drive to Mumbo. He later asks Banjo and Kazooie to harvest coconuts from the grove, and then he wants them to cook an egg for him. In the last act, he challenges them to a race against the farm staff in a dried river bed. Although Klungo enjoys his job, he is inexperienced and constantly seeks Banjo's help to avoid getting fired.

If he choses the red potion:
In LOGBOX 720, Klungo is one of the workers within the console. Like Nutty Acres, Klungo is not good at his job, and he needs help to avoid getting fired. He wears another white lab coat in this world. Klungo hosts challenges in Acts 1 and 4. He first needs Banjo to reconnect the console internet connection and later needs him to wet the Glubber sponge.

*"Yurrr! Now Klungo sssquash!"
In Banjoland, Klungo reappears as an average-Grunt again in this world. Klungo wears a green coat in this world. He hosts racing challenges in Acts 1, 3, 5 and 6: one is a race around the entire museum, another in the pool, a third in a Gobi-shaped vehicle and lastly, one around the frozen pool in a Honeycomb car.
*"Argghh! That hurtsss!"

If he choses the blue potion:
In Terrarium of Terror, Klungo is an entrepreneur who sells Floatberries. He wears a shiny, purple coat. He appears in Acts 1, 2, 3 and 4. He first needs Banjo and Kazooie to save the last Floatberry. Later, the duo must water them and then must put them into the juicer. In the last act that Klungo appears in, he befriends Uranus Mud Monster and wants Banjo and Kazooie to push them out of the water. Compared to other worlds, Klungo appears to be a competent worker, as other characters mention his Floatberry Juice, and ads for it are shown outside of the world.

*"Yurrr! Now not know which isss real Klungo!"
General information
Physical appearance
In the Nintendo 64 games, Klungo has an oversized left eyeball and a regular-size eyeball, both of which are yellow. In Grunty's Revenge and Banjo-Pilot, both of his eyeballs are white and the same size. In Nuts & Bolts, Klungo's left eye has been sewn on.

If he choses the green potion:
In Banjo-Tooie, during the party at Bottles' House, Klungo is wearing a purple lab coat and a party hat, and he has no bruises nor injuries.

*"Yurrr! Not find clever Klungo now!"
Personality
*"Grrrr! Silly Potion give Klungo'sss posssition!
Klungo is often shown to be slightly naive, yet also very intelligent when the situation demands it. For instance, he can construct complicated machinery and make potions and monsters to Gruntilda. His speech can lead one to assume that he is not very intelligent; he speaks mostly in sentence fragments and refers to himself in the third-person, often lisping when he says certain words that have an "s" in them. His grammar is also very poor; he often uses the singular form of words instead of the plural form when the plural form is needed. In Banjo-Tooie, Klungo is shown to be very obedient to Gruntilda, even asking her to punish him for his mistakes.

*In Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, Klungo has one average eye and an oversized left eyeball, both of them being yellow. In Grunty's Revenge and Banjo Pilot, they are both the same size and are coloured white. In Nuts and Bolts, Klungo's left eye has been sewn on, presumably undergoing eye surgery and correcting his vision.

*Klungo is the only villain in the Banjo-Kazooie series to change sides.
*He is also married to (or at the very least in a serious relationship with) a character named Mrs. Klungo, however, she is never seen and the only mention of her is in Banjo-Tooie.
*Klungo is not much like a hunchback, he's mostly a Troll or an Ogre.
*When Klungo is sleeping in Bottles' House his injuries from Grunty are missing.
*In Banjo-Tooie, after Klungo has been defeated in each fight and the player leaves the area, it cannot be accessed again as entering one entrance to the area has the player immediately come out the other end without going inside the area first. This was likely done to keep players from having to go through the first digger tunnel where Klungo is first fought again and again in order to get to Spiral Mountain and back.
*During the "Bottles and Jingaling Restored" cutscene after completing the "Tower of Tragedy" quiz, Klungo says "celebrate" normally instead of saying "Sssssselebrate". Even though "Celebrate" doesn't have an "S" in it, the "C" in the word makes the same sound as "S". Marking this the only time Klungo says the "S" sound without saying "Sssssss
*Klungo shares the same voice as Nipper.
*It's not possible to fight Klungo as Mumbo Jumbo using a gameshark code, as Klungo just ignores Mumbo's attacks.

“Klungo not work for Grunty no more. Witch mean and sssmell bad. Klungo buy her deodorant, ssshe never ussse it.”
Klungo, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Klungo is a green, goblin-like character and one of the main characters in the Banjo-Kazooie series. He formerly served as the loyal assistant of Gruntilda and was a scientist who created various inventions to help with her evil schemes. Klungo first appears in Banjo-Kazooie and has since appeared in every game of series. Klungo is usually seen wearing a white lab coat. He speaks with incorrect grammar and, like Ssslumber, hisses every time he pronounces the letter "s".

History

Banjo-Kazooie

In Banjo-Kazooie, Klungo has a minor role and only appears in a few cutscenes, helping Gruntilda with her Beauty Steal Machine. In a cutscene right before Banjo and Kazooie start their adventure, he tells Gruntilda that the machine has to power up but assures her that it will soon be ready. Klungo also appears in the Game Over sequence, in which he has an Igor-like role, as Gruntilda instructs him to pull the switch that transfers Tooty's beauty to her.

In the ending, after the final battle, Klungo is seen trying to push off a large boulder that fell on Gruntilda.

Banjo-Tooie

Klungo in the character parade, shown to have been beaten and battered by Gruntilda.

 • In the cave that connects Spiral Mountain to Jinjo Village. The game title introduces him as a Minion with a Mission. After the battle, Banjo and Kazooie cannot enter the cave again, and are directly taken to either Spiral Mountain or Jinjo Village (depending on which entrance they use).
 • The second battle takes place near the entrance to Terrydactyland. He is introduced as a Revenge-Seeking Minion.
 • The third and final battle is just beyond the entrance to Gruntilda's Lair in Cauldron Keep. He is introduced as a Career-Questioning Minion.

 • The red potion gives Klungo the ability to grow. As well as this, Klungo tries to jump on Banjo and Kazooie.
 • The green potion grants Klungo invisibility, although the potion is imperfect as it occasionally gives away Klungo's location.
 • The blue potion clones Klungo.

Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge

Klungo's appearance in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge

In the midquel Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, after two months of trying to free Grunty from under the boulder, Klungo designs Mecha-Grunty for Grunty to transfer her spirit into. Together, Mecha-Grunty and Klungo kidnap Kazooie and time travel to the past, hoping to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from ever meeting.

In the ending, after Grunty's soul returns to her normal body, she demands Klungo to send a note to her sisters to help lift the boulder off her, leading to the events of Banjo-Tooie.

Banjo-Pilot

In Banjo-Pilot, Klungo is a playable character, being unlocked by completing Skull Cup and giving 150 Cheato Pages to Cheato. He has low handling and acceleration but high top speed. Klungo is the boss of Skull Cup, being fought at the end in the match "Klungo Karnage". During the battle, when Klungo is flying in front, he throws behind potions that work like Single Blue Ice Eggs.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

In Showdown Town, Klungo wears his traditional lab coat. Like the other characters, Klungo's role and outfit is different for every world:

In Nutty Acres, Klungo is a farmhand here and wears a red plaid coat. He hosts challenges in Acts 1, 4, 5 and 6. His first challenge is simple, just drive to Mumbo. He later asks Banjo and Kazooie to harvest coconuts from the grove, and then he wants them to cook an egg for him. In the last act, he challenges them to a race against the farm staff in a dried river bed. Although Klungo enjoys his job, he is inexperienced and constantly seeks Banjo's help to avoid getting fired.

In Banjo-Tooie, during the party at Bottles' House, Klungo is wearing a purple lab coat and a party hat, and he has no bruises nor injuries.

Personality
